“SUDARE” |

“Sudare” are screens or blinds.
They are used in many Japanese homes to shield the windows and other openings.
“Sudare” are made of horizontal slats of natural materials such as reed and bamboo, woven together with string.
They are suitable for Japanese hot and humid summer, because they allow the wind to pass while blocking sunlight.
They also serve to protect the inhabitants of the houses from eyes of outsiders.
They could be either rolled or fold up when they are not needed.
Sudare are wonderful products invented by “a thinking reed” as Blaise Pascal said.
Reeds grow near rivers and ponds and can grow as high as 2 to 6 meters. Reed field at waterfront is an ideal habitat for fish and aquatic creatures. It also acts as important natural purifier of water.
